EL PERFIL DE LA MAGNOLIA € 500,- excl. taxes This book contains fifteen original woodcuts by Ruben Herrera accompanied by poems buy Saul Yurkievich. The translation was done by Harriët Peteri and the graphic design by Carla Herrera.
Authors Saúl Yurkievich (Argentina, 1931- Paris, 2005) was a poet, a literary critic and an art. To Yurkievich both disciplines were complimentary, two ways of being creative with the written word, sometimes conceptually, then metaphorically or analytically. As a critic Yurkievich was a specialist of the work amongst others of Cortàzar, Neruda, Vallejo, Borges, Paz and the avant-garde art and literature. From 1974 he is one of the members of the editorial commission of the French magazine Change. As a contributing member of Action Poëtique he is in close contact with the luminaries of French poetry. Jacques Roubaud, Florence Delay, Henri Deluy, Pierre Lartigue, Claude Esteban translate his work into French. In turn Yurkievich translates the first books of Edmons Jabès into Spanish. Thanks to the enthusiasm of Cola Franzen, Yurkievich’s english translator, the work of Yurkievich has been widely circulated in the United States. In 1984 he wins the Pushcart Prize for the best article in a literary magazine in the English language. In 1988 the Fondation Royaumont dedicates an entire seminary to the poetry of Yurkievich. Yurkievich has held the Mellon-chair at the university of Pittsburgh and the Tinkel-chair at the university of Chicago. He has also been a professor at Columbia University, Harvard University and John Hopkins Institute. Ruben Herrera (Argentina, 1943) has won awards at the Salon Grafique in Marseille and the Salon Michel de Ghelderode in Brussel. His work has been exhibited in many European and Latin-American countries, Canada and China. It forms part of public and private collections in The Netherlands. His work was used as cover design for books by Julio Cortázar, Ernesto Sábato, Mario Benedetti, Gabriel García Márquez, Vargas Llosa and Saúl Yurkievich. These books were published by the dutch publisher Meulenhoff and the Spanish publisher Plaza y Janés. |
